Cflow and Sustainability
According to the report “The State of World Aquaculture and Fisheries,” the global consumption of seafood increased by 122% between the years 1990 and 2018.
Most of this growth comes from aquaculture, as traditional fishery has evened out since the early 1990s.
As the world's population is expected to grow to 9.7 billion by 2050, we will need more sustainable and nutritious food. There is, however, already a shortage of both arable land and climate-friendly energy.
The solutions of the future are in the sea, but this is contingent on us developing solutions that will care for and preserve this important resource.
All life on Earth depends on the sea; the ocean currents are like the veins of the world and have a key function in all global systems. This includes heat transportation, fresh water supply, and being a buffer for CO2 emissions.
Did you know that more than half of the oxygen we breathe in comes from the sea?
Dedicated to a sustainable future
As an important knowledge base and key supplier to both the fishery and aquaculture industries, Cflow is passionate about the sea and the surrounding environment.
We see the responsibility we have for the coming generations, and we challenge existing solutions so that the development will continue.
In Cflow, we think fresh; we use new knowledge, develop new technology, and aim towards new markets. Together with the rest of the industry, we will make sure Norway sits in the main seat when it comes to environmentally friendly technology for sustainable food production.
We quote Norway's former Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland – We must think globally, but act locally
Through our work, we contribute to the sustainable development of the industry. We analyse and guide our development work in the right direction — sustainable solutions for the planet, for humankind, and for economic growth.
Cflow endorses the UN Global Compact, and so we follow the ten principles that are to ensure responsible operations regarding human rights, work life, anti-corruption, and the environment, among other things.
Marine food production requires a clean ocean. That is why Cflow also implements and follows UN Global Compact Sustainable Ocean Principles. We focus on securing healthy oceans so that we can continue utilizing marine resources and still have rich ecosystems in the future.
Sustainable solutions
Cflow has developed a multitude of technologies that promote sustainable development. Some of these have been published on “The Explorer: GreenTech from Norway,” a platform dedicated to Norwegian technology that promotes sustainable development.
